Parrot Snacks

As long as I was making nut-based cookies the other day, I figured why not make snacks for Robert, our blue and gold macaw.

Parrot Cookies (Snacks) Makes 36-ish.

  • 2 cups almond flour
  • 1/2 cup corn meal
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 4 eggs, shells reserved and pulverized
  • 1/2 cup coconut oil, melted
  • 1/2 cup macadamia nuts, chopped
  • 1/2 cup walnuts, chopped
  • 1/2 cup shredded carrots
  • 1/2 cup dried cranberries
  • 2/3 cup chopped kale
  1. Preheat oven to 350°. Grease or line a cookie sheet.
  2. In a medium-large bowl, combine flour, meal, baking soda. and egg shells.
  3. In another bowl, whisk together eggs and coconut oil.
  4. Make a well in the dry ingredients and slowly add wet ingredients.
  5. Fold in nuts and vegetables.
  6. Using cookie scooper or large spoon, drop onto lined/greased cookie sheet, pushing down to spread, and leaving an inch between them.
  7. Bake for 10-12 minutes. Let stand ten minutes on pan, then transfer to cooling rack.  Repeat as needed.
  8. Cool completely.  Freeze half for later and store the rest in the refrigerator.

Man, o man, does Robert love these cookies.  I break them in half and give them to him as a treat and he squawks and screams and shows off attacking his toys before coming over to the perch where I always feed him treats.
